Behavioral Objectives:

At the conclusion of this retreat, participants will be able to:

List resources for therapies that can be complementary in the management of Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer.

Identify three therapeutic lifestyle changes proven to reduce stress-related symptoms and reduce risk factors for chronic disease.

Describe two new strategies for balanced eating shown to improve mood, energy and metabolism and reduce insulin resistance & dyslipidemia.

Apply the Huna philosophy in their everyday life to reduce stress and maintain mind/body/spirit wellness throughout the year.

Describe two mind/body healing techniques to reduce pain and anxiety.

Apply yoga and meditation practice in their everyday life to reduce stress and maintain wellness throughout the year.

List nine scientifically valid techniques for stress management.

Recommend natural cleaning and personal care products to reduce the toxic chemical load associated with common health problems.

Tuition: Tuition is included for participants registered for the Hawaii Health Getaway.

Accreditation: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP 13272 and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, Provider #PCE 2886 for RN, MFT and LCSW licensure requirements up to 28 hours.

Retreat Faculty

Ann B. Doherty, RN, CDE is an experienced holistic health educator, national lecturer and practicing clinician. She has been coordinating lifestyle modification programs since 1985 while working as a research nurse at the Stanford Heart Disease Prevention Program and with the Preventive Medicine Research Institute - Dr. Dean Ornish's studies in reversing heart disease. She currently works in the San Francisco Bay Area as a Certified Diabetes Educator and Cardiac Risk Counselor. As director of Optimal Health Associates, Ann designs and teaches wellness programs to health professionals and the community. Her presentations at this retreat will provide information on the latest medical advances as well as complementary therapies available to promote cardiovascular health and manage diabetes.

Annie Enea, RYT, MS has a Masters of Science in holistic nutrition and exercise physiology. She is certified in personal fitness training, aerobics, meditation, biofeedback and yoga therapy. She will be teaching Ananda Yoga, a gentle and meditative form of Hatha Yoga, with the focus of higher awareness. President of Choose Total Wellness and owner of the Sacred Garden Yoga Studio in Half Moon Bay, California, she has been a wellness consultant for the American Heart and Lung Associations, and the Health Departments of Monterey County and the State of Hawaii.

Serge Kahili King, PhD, a Hawaiian-trained Shaman, is an internationally acclaimed teacher of the Hawaiian Huna philosophy and author of numerous books including Urban Shaman, Kahuna Healing, Instant Healing and Healing for Millions. He leads regular Talk Story sessions describing Hawaiian culture, history, philosophy and healing traditions, as well as intensive workshops around the world on healing. He is the founder of Aloha International, a ten-thousand-member worldwide network of teachers, counselors and therapists who follow his work. Through Serge and other Huna teachers, you will learn simple and practical mind/body techniques that anyone can use to bring greater health and harmony into their lives.

Diane Koerner is a shamanic counselor and teacher of the Hawaiian Huna philosophy, trained through Aloha International. She is also a natural lifestyle counselor, trained in macrobiotics at the Vega Institute. Diane will teach mind-body healing techniques for stress reduction and pain relief, and guide you in learning Kahi Loa bodywork for healing with the power of energy and touch.  She'll also present the options and health benefits of “going green” in your home and workplace.
